How we size it
The same rules our technicians start from.
The planner is a starting point. On a site visit we check your DB board, roof, cable runs and real usage before we quote.
- Inverter: your peak load plus 25% headroom, plus extra for a pump motor's start-up surge, rounded up to a standard size.
- Battery: the energy your chosen appliances use through the outage, at 90% usable depth of discharge, in 5 kWh steps.
- Panels: enough 550 W modules to cover a day's use and refill the battery at about 5.5 peak sun hours, and never less than 70% of the inverter rating.
- Fridges and freezers are counted at their real duty cycle, not their nameplate wattage around the clock.

The LiFePO4 batteries we install are typically rated for 6,000 or more charge cycles. Cycled once a day, that is well over a decade of service. Exact ratings vary by brand and model, and the datasheet comes with your quote.
Will my appliances notice when ZESA goes off?
Hybrid inverters switch to battery power automatically and fast enough that lights, TVs, routers and most computers carry on. Sensitive equipment can go on its own protected circuit.
Can solar run my borehole pump or geyser?
Borehole pumps, yes. We size the inverter for the motor's start-up surge, or install a dedicated solar pumping system. For hot water we usually recommend a solar geyser instead, because heating water from batteries is an expensive use of stored energy.
Can I start small and add more later?
Yes. We leave headroom in the inverter, and most lithium batteries we fit can be expanded with extra modules of the same model.
